Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH (GTV) presents the varied 2020 collection through the intense pictures by Gionata Xerra taken inside sophisticated Italian residences, period houses each with a personal contemporary identity thanks to the skilful design interventions that have given them new life.
The designers of the 2020 proposals are both names already close to GTV and new collaborators. Distinct design signatures that, each with specific visions, reinterpret the value of the past and the stylistic heritage of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna linked to the introduction of the steam-curved beech wood working technique. Among the new additions, the newly expanded range incorporating NYNY and MOS storage units, a choice that follows the introduction of headboards presented in 2019 and affirms the company’s precise desire to offer more complete furnishing proposals both in the residential and hospitality-hotellerie sectors. NYNY by storagemilano
In NYNY GTV characteristic materials, wood and Vienna straw, by distinctively asserting their modernity design a piece of furniture with a strong emotional dimension, capable of imposing its personality in space as the absolute protagonist of the scene. This multifaceted design by storagemilano, with its versatile personality, expresses an interdependence of design, architecture and art that draws inspiration both from the typical postmodernist styles and the graphic playfulness of the eighties while creating an irregular development of perspective that is also accentuated by the intense chromatic composition.
The reference to architecture is also declared in the name NYNY as in New York, New York. The play of volumes in the product is, in fact, a tribute to the New Museum of Contemporary Art building in Nolita, whose structure expresses the archetypal forms of the Babylonian ziggurat.
With a totemic spirit, NYNY – in the vertical unit version – finds its definition in the asymmetrical superimposition of geometric volumes that are suspended thanks to the support of the wall-mounted metal structure. Each volume corresponds to a specific function: below, two drawers, one high and one low; above, two compartments with doors, the lower one can also be used as a desk.
NYNY is a family of storage units, all characterised by the strength of the creative language typical of storagemilano, a harmonious fusion between the typical creativity of a master designer and a design language typical of architects. Together with the vertical container, the collection is completed by the large sideboard with horizontal development and a chest of drawers.
SÖLDEN CHAIR – design Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH (GTV)
Sölden is a fascinating project that is the result of a continuous investigation into the long tradition of bent wood: a seat that pays homage to the stylistic codes typical of the ’30s, an important chapter in the profound heritage of GTV that is still little investigated.
For the first time, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna in fact shift the focus from the 1800s to the ‘30s of last century, a particularly intense period under architectural and artistic side which has seen its success in Art Decò, known in Vienna as Jugendstil.
Sölden is therefore a seat where bent-wood takes a more contemporary character thanks to the square section and the shapes that echo the typical clean design of the Bauhaus period.
Peculiarities are the large square upholstered seat and the woven cane backrest that, just like a large fan, with a bent-wooden frame, welcomes the back, ensuring great comfort.
Realization of the claim “Heritage designs the future”, chosen by Gebrüder Thonet Vienna for some years to tell the deep bond with the past, Sölden chair reveals in its traditional spirit a contemporary personality, perfect for refined contract projects.
SUGILOO – design Michael Anastassiades
The rigorous style of Michael Anastassiades defines the new SUGILOO bent wood chair with wood or upholstered seat, proposed with and without wooden backrest.
Its structure is pure and essential: the light structure is given by the encounter of curves that, like the stroke of a pencil on the sheet, draw seat, backrest and armrests.
A new refined minimalist tribute by the well-known designer to the DNA of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna with which he shares the love for the detail.
PEERS COFFEE TABLE by Front
High-end project that marks a new encounter with Gebrüder Thonet Vienna for which the two designers have signed some of the bestsellers of the contemporary collection such as the Hideout lounge chair, the N.0 chair and the Coat Rack Bench. The PEERS collection includes two tables, elements designed in pairs but also perfect used individually, ideal in the living area or in the bedroom as bedside tables.
With a characteristic contoured shape, they have a colored laminate top with solid wood edge while the structure is enriched by the wooden ring, a structural element that incorporates the typical support circles of the classic bent wood chairs. The heritage of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna inspired Front also in the design of the legs which contributes to defining the lightness of PEERS without affecting its stability.
JANNIS – design Dainelli Studio
In their first collaboration with Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, Dainelli Studio, owned by the creative duo of Leonardo and Marzia Dainelli, designed JANNIS, a collection of upholstered furniture that are eminently suitable for contract use.
Two and three-seater sofa and lounge chair, with judicious dimensions and slim proportions.
JANNIS is defined by a contemporary rigour that draws inspiration from the past, revealing its personality in the details: the wooden structure, lightweight to the eye but solid, holds the single seat cushion and the backrest, and is characterized by the metal feet with a brass finish. The front leg rises to define the thin profile of the armrest and closes in the semi-circular tip, again with a brass finish. The frame and legs are connected by steam-curved beech wood arches, an element of continuity with the heritage of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna.
SUZENNE SOFA – design Chiara Andreatti
Gebrüder Thonet Vienna reconfirms the collaboration with Chiara Andreatti with the new SUZENNE SOFA two-seater sofa that incorporates the aesthetic characteristics of the lounge chair of the same name.
A project with a contemporary spirit, SUZENNE SOFA reinterprets, with the soft stoke of the designer, the characteristic elements of the DNA of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna: bent wood and woven cane.
The seat is distinguished by the light structure in solid bent beech wood, encounter of straight and curved lines to support the woven cane backrest, defined by the wooden frame. The seat and backrest cushions are enveloping and soft and in a plant symbolism they bloom like a corolla from the stem.
MOS by GamFratesi
After introducing the bench, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna is expanding its range designed by GamFratesi with three new elements, namely a console, bookcase and side table, which can also be used as a bedside table.
Ellipse shape and calibrated dimensions remain common features of the new elements, which fit into any environment, thanks to their light elegance, whether it be the living room or the sleeping area as in refined lounge spaces. The woven cane shell conceals the wooden tops, two for the coffee table, three for the console and four for the bookcase. The frame in natural stained or black lacquered bent beech wood is supported by brass feet.
