A breath of fresh air – it’s rarely that to be the description of modern home design, but in this case, it is true. This collaborative project initially designed in the 1960s by architect George Reves, the ‘Homage to Oscar’ house has been updated by Luigi Rosselli Architects and Studio Schelp, with glamorous interiors by Alwill Interiors, and dreamy landscaping by Dangar Barin Smith – in Sydney has not only eclectic collaboration as an origin but an eclectic stylistics as an aura.
Brazilian, Mediterranean, and mid-century design influences are immediately evident in the design. White, sunny luminosity and bold combinations of blue and green shades in the color selection bring the whiff of the Mediterranean Sea. And while the tropical landscaping and prominent facade are reminiscent of Brazilian architecture, the interiors would look perfectly at home in a Greek or Italian island – with an inclination towards the mid-century and classic stylistic, that is, of course.
Combining undulated, plastic shapes, curves, and easy-going open premises, the home offers a possibility of endless playfulness and elegance at the same time. The undulated shapes are starting from the beautifully styled yard where not only the stones and the lush plant life offer the natural softness of shapes, but oval crones and undulated lines also dominate the architectural and furniture selection. The large glass openings and untypical approaches towards the exterior create a seamless connection between the gardens and the interior composition. Even, as a design, the light simplicity of the color and structural palette of the kitchen decor, for example, allows the view toward the lush plans of the garden to create the mood of the space.
And speaking of the mood of this amazing home, its eclectic nature brigs a rich, sensual experience in each and every detail – from color and shape selection to textural and material statements. Keeping the feeling of the design light, open and airy, the design team stroked a balance between timeless elegance and inspired homage to the unmistakable mid-century details and style. Luxury and functionalism also find their golden path, and introduce a relaxed harbor-side lifestyle. And like the bold combination of green and blue shades in the color palette which brings the salty sea whiff in the decor composition – this eclectic search for playful balance creates a unique home character.
Attention toward even the smallest detail is also very characteristic for the project – from the beautiful plant pots to the gorgeous curve of the staircase’s brass railing; all is in harmony with the design idea and the openness and dynamic of the architectural construct. The usage of trendy materials like the brass details and beautiful tile compositions, plus the iconic lamps and decorative objects create an added artistic value to the design project.
The home’s architectural signature – the curved lines is replicated and mirrored by the unique shapes of the furniture selection, giving a soft, welcoming touch to the open premise configuration of the social zones. The textural, material, and color selection chosen by the designers is in sync with the unique character of the home. Form the luxurious brass and marble details, through the artistic tile and glass insertions, to the warm wood, leather, and linen textiles all create a rich and joyful for the senses experience of eclectic design home.
