Art Deco details, organic vibrations, stylish modern insertions, and Mexican heart of home – we just love it! For all the art lovers, this amazing restoration project of Casa Deco will offer a colorful opportunity to enjoy the historic spirit of a signature era. For the rest of us – the beauty and cozy entwinement between rural Mexican decor touches, organic materials and modern style and functionalism will be enough to want to live there.
The project of renovating a house in the historic center of Merida, Mexico was fallen upon the Taller Mexicano de Arquitectura Studio, and they were tried to recover and underline the original Art Deco features that the house was hiding. The project was also aiming to reinterpret the downtown lifestyle so a beautiful backyard, balconies, and terraces ware central for the decor composition.
The whole house feel is open, spacious, and full of light so the colorful mosaics and glazed tiles, as well as the original stone constructs, can be appropriately illuminated and underlined as a focal center. Macramé details, woven pieces of furniture, antique and retro details, and rich textural elements only highlight the specific organic ambiance of this Mexican home and give the modern, clean lines of the design arrangement a hint of originality and reverence to history and location.
This house project shows really a unique and beautiful entwinement between subtle modern hints and retro art; in the courtyard for example – the simply shaped modern swimming pool area is surrounded by original stone constructs with historic and romantic charm. On the ground floor where the social areas are – the mosaic floors are the center of simplistic clay and cement finishes of walls and arched passages, giving the space the expressive feel of something complete – yet not finished.
The amazing balance between, retro rural and modern simplicity can be observed in each detail and space of the home- the entrance and main social areas with the beautiful silhouette of the contemporary staircase in combination with stone walls and tile flooring – a dynamic and stylish configuration. Retro and antique pieces of furniture (just check out the beautiful armoire in the main salon or the wardrobe in the master bedroom) alternate with trendy design lightning solutions, thin metal frames and occasional comfort-pieces of modern furniture.
The spiral staircase leading to the cozy courtyard, the amazing bathrooms’ design (one of which with inviting green outside element), the stylish entwinement of clean, modern lines and organic, rural insertions create an ambiance that has a character and is not easy to forget.
