When we designed the Panama sideboard and TV furniture, for Portuguese Company Wewood, we looked for a warm and simple concept in its forms. The style of the 50’s is present in the Panama design, at that time the functionality of the pieces was essential and we wanted to capture it in this collection. The use of noble wood such as walnut or oak, combined with marble and iron lacquered in black have been essential to achieving elegance in all the elements.

We wanted to give importance to the woodwork, so for the design of the door handle, we were inspired by the unique pointed end shape from the freighter ships. Also, we liked the hull profile of these boats to be able to use it as a reference for the design of the structure. A light visual aspect but with enough consistency to support the weight of the furniture. The tubular legs with curved “L” shape were mounted parallel to the metal structure, reminding us of the channel where these boats sail. Hence, the collection is called Panama.
