The Hotel Cala Esmeralda – which in translation means the Hotel of the turquoise bay, is a place surrounded by Mediterranean gardens and with a view over the Majorcan Creek ( hence the name) that explores the architectural and design stylistics of the 70s with an inspired modern twist.
The unusual fusion of classical, modern and spicy starts from the hallway with its semi-open construct that can be associated with the functionality of the 70s motels but still offers elegant and artistic solutions. Above the triple height staircase, an artistic bamboo lamp installation brings identity and elegant charm to the décor. The whiteness of the main construct (a typical Mediterranean feature) is enhanced by the wooden cladding and framing of ceilings, doors, and windows, by the presence of stone walls in the central patio and of course by the refreshing turquoise coloring of the many swimming pools that surround the hotel premise.
In the rooms’ decoration the inspiration of the decade in which the hotel was originally built, using the traditional craft of this Balearic Island, is preserved and mixed with the comfort and luxury design elements of the present. The careful selection of materials and furniture has been chosen by Isabel López Vilalta, to provide a contemporary, fresh and colorful image. The furnishing compositions are decided mainly in simple, clear lines with bright accents – like the yellow chairs in the hotel restaurant and patio, or the red textiles in the guest rooms. But the most charming and characteristic feature of the hotel design remains still the eclectic mixture of a romantic past and stylish percent, all illuminated by the warm Mediterranean sun.
