Silver Bay Holiday House by SAOTA Architects

0

Are you fed up with modernistic architecture houses, with their minimalistic furnishing and colors, robust materials and straight lines? If you are this South African house with its abundance of oblong and unusual shapes, strong color and texture presence and warm summer spirit it’s just for you. Its eclectic and cozy interior is created by Antony Associates and emanates summer relax, natural art and strong homey presence.

The architecture of the house (designed as a holiday house for a young couple and their friends) created by SAOTA Architects is contemporary but sensitive towards surroundings, art, and relaxation. Maximizing the wonderful ocean and mountain views, creating protection from the harsh winds and capturing the natural sunlight the architecture is open and cozy at the same time. The living quarters (kitchen, living room, and dining area) are arranged in one open plan L – shaped space that achieves its definition of zones by elevation of floors and difference of textures. Vast floor-to-ceiling openings towards the inner courtyard with a swimming pool and at the opposed side towards the ocean bring spaciousness and free float into the premise and connect unobstructedly the inhabitants with the natural surroundings.  The strong connection of the house with the water is translated into intense blue color thread that goes throughout the premise.

Artistic craft-made chairs, wicker elements and furniture that corresponds well with the exposed timber beams structure of the roof, artistic shapes and designer’s lamps, abundance of cushions – all this creates certain rustic comfort and artful appearance of the space. The living room is organized around a conical flue made from Corten steel that forms a strong visual element which unities the large and inviting sofas and the row wood tables and chairs. The materials and textures are natural and sensitive – beautiful timber, woven baskets, red patchwork rugs, gray and charcoal textiles – all carrying the exquisite sensation of stylish home.
